History

The word Rudra is the name of Lord Shiva and aksha means tears. There are several versions about the origin of the Rudrakshas.

Rudraksha word is related to Hindu Religion. Rudraksha tree and seed both are called Rudraksha. In Sanskrit Rudraksham means Rudraksha fruit as well as Rudraksha tree.

One who removes darkness or ignorance Rudraksha meaning-the eye of Rudra [Shiva] is considered to be the most potent manifestation of the Cosmic Force. Hence Rudraksha is the object of veneration and also the source to reach the higher self.  

Rudraksha is often believed to symbolize the link between the earth and the heaven. These beads are the seeds of the Rudraksha fruit obtained from Rudraksha trees. The Rudraksha tree is botanically known as ELAEOCARPUS GANITRUS ROXB. Its English name is UTRASUM BEAD TREE.

Do the Rudrakshas really work...

Of course they do... but not always. Acquiring an authentic Rudraksha is a challenge in itself. But the hunt doesn't stop there. If the bead has not been purified, sanctified and energised, it is as useful as a button on your shirt!!!

The Rudrakshas are very rare to find. Today  there are just a few trees left, some of which can be found  in South and South-East Asia, Asia-Pacific, China etc. Obviously, something so rare will come to you at a price. Hundreds of Rudraksha beads grow on the same tree, but only one in hundred is the magical bead that you are looking for. What can make The Rudraksha even more powerful and effective is the power invested in it through prayers, through purification and energisation and through the ongoing process of retaining its sanctity.

Are there any definitive tests...

Unfortunately, no. There are no definitive tests to test the authenticity of a Rudraksha except the discerning eye of an expert. When looking at the bead carefully, you'll find various deep dug lines separating the various faces of the Rudraksha bead. Ironically, humans have known to use their 'extreme skill' and try to 'carve' lines into the Rudraksha or 'wipe' them off, in order to change the faces or 'mukhis' of the bead... i.e. 'alter' it according to their demands. It is extremely difficult to tell a genuine and a spurious Rudraksha apart, but the discerning eye of an expert can spot these 'manual interventions' and declare whether or not the Rudraksha has been tampered with.

But even within different Rudrakshas, there are some which are far more powerful than others. The criterion of selecting the right bead is not a simple one. Experts must examine each bead and find the right ones. Then each bead must be purified thru' ancient rituals and energised thru' rigorous Homa, which lasts for 41 days, before being securely packed. After purification, no human hands must touch the bead or it gets contaminated.

Do all Rudrakshas have the same power...

Again, no. What we must understand here is that the acquiring an authentic bead is extremely difficult. But what is more important is the understanding of how the Rudrakshas work. We repeat ourselves here, by saying that all beads from an original Rudraksha tree are not genuine and all don't have the same power. In fact only one bead in hundreds has the magic powers that can greatly influence your life.

How to get the maximum from my Rudraksha...

Now that you have got a Rudraksha that is empowered, you must try and maintain its power and get the maximum benefit from it.

To reap maximum benefit from Rudrakshas, you must have total belief and faith in them, and treat them as holy and sacred objects of worship and not as mere beads and understand their sanctity. In the good old days, men had such immense power and the Rudraksha was used as a weapon against the enemy, to fulfill one's wishes, to achieve what we'd call impossible today!! All is possible if today's man too, can store that much energy inside his body and learn to use it to his advantage. Make sure that these Holy beads never get disrespected and try to follow all instructions and precautions for maximum benefit. Even  if the Rudraksha that you possess was original and genuine, if not blessed, purified and empowered, it would have already lost its power by the time it would have reached you.

Which Rudraksha is best for me...

There are 38 varieties of Rudrakshas available. We briefly mention below their types and their effects on people generally.

INCORRECT RUDRAKSHA BEADS HAVE KNOWN TO HAVE PROVED FATAL IN EXTREME CIRCUMSTANCES.

Never get influenced by what you read or what a novice tells you. Even normal Rudraksha vendors can only tell you generally what are the benefits of the Rudraksha. Only an expert can study your horoscope and tell you exactly what bead or combination of beads is good for you. Consult your family astrologer or other websites who sell Rudrakshas only after consulting your horoscope. It is not advisable to wear Rudrakshas without consulting an expert.

The  GemTherapy doesn't apply to Rudrakshas. There are gems for different planets but you can't treat Rudrakshas as gems. This just reflects the ignorance level among those who treat this as a trade and have not invested time in developing an understanding of what they are selling. Each Rudraksha is very individualistic and has to be carefully matched with one's horoscope for it to be beneficial. Your birth chart, present position of planets and case history has to be examined before recommendation.
